Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits.

It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

- Set the example. Let children see you read.
- Have a collection of books in the home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
- Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Book Fair dates: October 31 - November 10

Shopping hours: 8:15am -3:00pm

Before you visit the Book Fair, be sure to download the Book Fairs app to help you find the right books for your child. For more information, visit: scholastic.com/apps/bookfairs. And if you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. Our online Fair is available from October 31,2014 to November 10,2014.

The State Department of Health has confirmed the first Florida case of the Enterovirus-D68 in Tampa. This virus causes cold and flu-like symptoms and is considered highly contagious. In infants and young children, the virus can cause difficulty breathing.

Schools are being advised to be vigilant and practice good hygiene. Parents, if your children experience one or more of the following symptoms, we ask that you keep them home. If the symptoms persist, please seek medical care as soon as possible: FEVER, RUNNY NOSE, SNEEZING, COUGH, BODY & MUSCLE ACHES, WHEEZING, AND DIFFICULTY BREATHING.

You can help prevent your family from getting and spreading respiratory illnesses by following these steps:

- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact such as hugging, kissing, sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt sleeve, not with your bare hands
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick
- PLEASE STAY HOME WHEN YOU ARE SICK
